Dolphins

Its been awhile since we watched The Cove but...
I was watching CNN (for the soothing monotones after a hard night) and I saw a story about Sea World. Apparently the crack Animal Rescue Team of the Orlando Sea World created a brace for a whale that has been suffering from scoliosis. Looking more into it I found out that Busch Gardens, Discovery Cove, and Sea World are all affiliated with a program called Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation. Some of the results of the program that I found interesting was that

"Between 1990 and 1994, more than 3,000 stranded animals were rescued by or brought to SeaWorld parks. SeaWorld of California alone received more than 960 mammals and, following successful rehabilitation, released 484."

I found it a little bit fishy (pun intended!) that the most recent date in the "Results of Program" section was 1995 and I'm not saying that this absolves the apparent way they obtain their animals as expressed in The Cove, or their complete commercialization of sea creatures. I was just thinking about our talk about what the movie did not mention. This program is a side of sea world that the movie didn't really touch on at all.

  1. We need to keep questioning, especially those things we agree with.
