Green Gift Guide

I found a bunch of environmentally friendly gifts online and thought it would be appropriate to share since the holidays are coming up.

1. Grow Books. These are perfect for nieces, nephews, little brothers, and little sisters. Grow Books are children's books printed on recyclable, recycled, and compostable paper. If you don't compost you can send the book back to the company and they will dispose of it for you!
(Grow Books; $10-12)

2. Organic Essence Hand and Body Cream. The products from Organic Essence come in completely compostable packaging made from recycled paper and cellulose film! All of the products are certified organic by the USDA and without animal testing.

3. XKKO ECO Rattle Drum From Kikko Eco. This is a personal favorite of mine (even though I have no one to buy it for so hopefully one of you do). Baby toys are used for such a limited time because babies grow quickly and therefore grow out their toys, which are most likely made from plastic which just sits around landfills for generations. The rattle drum from XKKO is made from a bio-degradable, cornstarch-based material that won't hang around a garbage hole in the ground for generations to come (like Wall-E). More good news: it's only $7!

4. Bioplastic Raincoat From SpudCoat. Ok, I lied. This is my favorite thing. It's a poncho that is biodegradable and compostable. The coolest part about it: each poncho has a freaking seed ball in it that will grow cucumbers or tomatoes after you let it biodegrade! Genius.
(SpudCoat; $12)

5. Golf Combo Pack From Compostable Goods. This could make a good stocking stuffer. I'm pretty sure most guys who golf on the regular aren't incredibly concerned with the environmental friendliness of their equipment. But if they received some eco friendly tees they'd have no reason to not use them, right?

6. 2C Solar Light Cap From 2CLight Company. This is really cool and perfect for camping. A flexible solar panel sits on the brim and should be charged while wearing during the day. When the sun goes down, a switch flips on two LED lights built into the underside of the brim to allow the wearer to see with a handsfree hat. Eleven Solar Light Cap styles come with a polar cap for winter camping.

7. Local Harvest CSA Membership. My dad has a membership and it's a sweet deal. Check Local Harvest to find a farm that offers a community supported agriculture program in the neighborhood, then sign yourself (or a friend) up for a year or season of fresh, local produce!
(CSA Membership; Prices vary)
