Open up the windows and enjoy!

I have realized over time that the Shepherd’s center does not have has much open space as I believe it should. Since we are affected by our environment shouldn’t the older folks at the center be spending more time outside instead of a crowded few rooms? There is a wonderful green area behind the church that isn’t being used; in fact the door that leads to it is blocked off. If some of the activities done inside were relocated outside it would completely transform the affect on the people. For example, Tai chi, which is supposed to be a form of meditation, would be more pleasant outdoors I’m sure. In cold weather like this I understand why they would seek the comfort of the warm indoors. But throughout the year I think it would be a good idea to take advantage of the nice weather. Except for our dreadful summers of course. Recently at my work-study job there have been renovations and now we are able to uncover the windows to have a beautiful view of St. Charles. Before there was drape covering the window with no natural light showing in at all. The atmosphere in here is significantly better than it was before. Studies show older people develop something called sundown syndrome, this means that when the sun goes down they get depressive thoughts. If it would make everyone happier and healthier lets soak in a few UV rays!
